The Somerset Levels and Moors is home to a diverse range of wildlife including wading birds, curlews, bitterns, otters, dragonflies and an abundance of wildflowers. In winter over 80,000 water birds gather across the area.

Every year between November and February, the starlings flock together over the Somerset Levels & Moors to create huge and magnificent starling murmurations. The starlings numbering thousands form sweeping shapes before roosting in the reeds. Although the murmurations can be seen across the Somerset Levels some of the best places to see them are the Avalon Marshes and the National Nature Reserves of Westhay Moor National Nature Reserve which often features in documentaries, including the BBC's Springwatch and Autumnwatch series. Also RSPB Ham Wall
